A great boardwalk and arcade game is skee ball. But skee ball is also a great beach game too. Skee Ball is similar to bowling except the player aims to get the ball to fall into a hole rather than knock down pins.
To start, etch out the playing surface with a shovel in the sand. Once you have the playing surface outlined, get a couple of the kids to help smooth out the playing surface; unlike the real game of skee ball, there is no ramp in Beach Skee Ball. The kids enjoy building the skee ball surface as much as actually playing it.
Dig a couple of holes into the playing surface. Don’t forget to assign a point system to each hole, with the easier holes to hit being worth less points than the more difficult holes.
Build a wall behind the back portion of the playing surface – this will keep the ball from rolling down the beach after each turn, and keep the game from quickly fizzling out once the players realize they have to keep chasing the ball after each turn.
Build the gutter in and around the playing surface too, just like the gutter in the actual game. From there, it’s game on. You can play two teams; 1vs.1; or just one player. For the most fun results, play with at least 3-5 balls. Teams or players should alternate rolling the balls down the beach lane toward the holes. First team to 21 wins.
Just like Run the Bases, Beach Skee Ball is a great game for your kids to be entertained, but usually gets the interest of the other kids on the beach who join in. Beach Skee Ball is a great way to get everyone involved and a fun way to spend the day.
